Phlebitis (Venous Thrombosis, Thrombophlebitis, Phlebothrombosis, Milk Leg)
SYMPTOMS. The legs become swollen, are heavy feeling and painful and take on
unnatural whiteness.
CAUSES. It involves a clot in a vein. It may occur due to an injury or
infection. May also be caused by blood standing still in the vein because of
bed rest or inactivity. This may follow a pregancy or surgery. There may be
no inflamation (PHLEBOTHROMBOSIS) or definite inflamation (THROMBOPHLEBITIS)
TREATMENT. May require bed rest with the leg elevated.
.To prevent futher clogging, an anticoagulant drug may be prescribed.
.Moist warm packs may help. Elastic support when walking may be required.
